New Assignment Schedule

Fellow writers,

Given how long it has taken us to get through the research speeches, I've had to revamp the schedule once again. Here is the link to the new schedule of assignments. Please note that deadlines have been moved around; we will have to do peer review of the documentaries the Tuesday before Thanksgiving in order let everyone show their documentaries and give their final presentations. Let me know if you have any questions!

Class Canceled

Fellow writers,

I am afraid I need to cancel class today due to illness; please see the "Handouts, Old and New" post for the rubric. I encourage you to use the rubric to edit your research speeches for next week, so we can stay on schedule. You can also watch this TED talk by Julian Treasure for some ideas on how to incorporate visuals into your speech. Please email me if you have questions, especially if we were going to meet in office hours today.

Good luck on your midterms, everyone!

Post-Library Assignment

Class,

Please complete the following research strategy assignment by October 29th. Beth will forward me the results and this will count towards your participation grade.

Here is the link. We're asking about the keywords you are using in your searches, so keep a running list or look back through your browser history for reminders of the terms you used in your searches on various websites.

Blog Editing Support Links

I've had a few questions about how to include various artifacts on blogs, so I am including the Google support links here. Please remember when including URLs that you are NOT using the link from where you are signed in. You can usually get a shareable link, but if you take the link directly off the page you are viewing from, it doesn't work. DO double-check on a device or computer where you are not signed in to see what your posts look like. This is part of the editing process!

For example, the Photo Essay Rubric, this link here. I got this link by logging into my own Google Drive account, right-clicking the file I wanted, selecting "Get Link" from the right-click menu, then clicking "Sharing Settings." A new box pops up with the option in the top right corner to "Get Shareable Link," which creates the link I copied to use at the beginning of the paragraph. (If I just click on the file and open it, the URL that pops up is https://drive.google.com/drive/my-drive, which does NOT direct you to the file. Those of you who sent me your https://www.blogger.com/blogger.?...etc. addresses instead of blogspot.com addresses made a similar mistake, and I imagine this issue is what prevented some of your primary artifacts from displaying properly.

Here are further how-to instructions for adding artifacts to your blog posts.

Link to websites
Include photo
Include video

And lastly, a link to Student Support Services here at school (Rm 443 in the Multidisciplinary Science Building at 725 Rose St., open 8-7 M-R, 8-5 F). Ask for Valerie and tell her I sent you from my WRD class for help.
